Clarity first. Impact always.

The PivotPoint Performance Diagnostic is your first step toward performance that measurably moves the needle – a structured, fixed-fee investigation that identifies what’s actually driving the gap before a single dollar is spent on a solution.

Why most performance interventions fail.

Organizations invest in training, technology, restructuring, and AI expecting results.

The issue isn’t the solution. It’s that the solution was chosen before the system producing the problem was understood.

This is Solution Bias – the organizational habit of skipping diagnosis and going straight to implementation. It is the most expensive habit in performance improvement, and most leaders don’t realize they’re doing it.

The PivotPoint Performance Diagnostic exists to break that pattern, and start the process of getting it right.

Phase 1 of the Performance Intelligence © Journey

The Diagnostic is the entry point to every PivotPoint engagement. It answers the most important question your organization needs answered before anything else: What is actually driving this performance gap?

In 3 to 4 weeks, you’ll have evidence-based clarity, a root cause map, and an intervention blueprint. Many clients take those deliverables and act on them internally. Others engage PivotPoint to guide the full cycle – through implementation and all the way to measuring the impact.

Either way, you leave with something most organizations never have: the truth about their performance problem.

How The Diagnostic Works

Five phases. Three to four weeks. One clear direction.

The diagnostic follows a disciplined process designed to separate symptoms from causes and match interventions to what the evidence actually shows.

Phase 1: Scoping and Alignment (Days 1-3)

We begin with a 60 to 90 minute kickoff to define the performance challenge, confirm scope, identify key stakeholders, and align on what success looks like. You sign a short Diagnostic Scope Agreement – not a lengthy contract – so we can move quickly.

Phase 2: Evidence Gathering (Days 4-10)

Up to eight confidential stakeholder interviews (30 to 45 minutes each), workflow observation, and document review. We listen for patterns, contradictions, and the gap between what the organization says is happening and what is actually happening.

Phase 3: Root Cause Analysis (Days 11-16)

Using the Performance Intelligence framework © we analyze evidence across six performance drivers: work design, conditions, skills, motivation, tools, and measures. The goal is to identify which drivers are contributing to the gap – and which are not. The output is a root cause map that shows the relationships between symptoms, contributing factors, and true causes.

Phase 4: Recommendations (Days 17-21)

We identify the highest-leverage interventions matched to the diagnosed causes. No default prescriptions. No “we recommend training” unless the evidence points to a skills driver. The output is an Intervention Blueprint – a standalone action plan with sequencing, timelines, responsible parties, and success measures.

Phase 5: Presentation and Handoff (Days 22-25)

A 60 to 90 minute executive presentation of findings, followed by Q&A and full handoff of all deliverables. You walk away with evidence, clarity, and a plan you can act on immediately.

Is this right for you?

The Performance Diagnostic is built for leaders who know something isn’t working but aren’t sure exactly why, and are willing to pause long enough to find out before investing in a fix.

You are a good fit if:

  • Your team or organization has 25 to 500 people – or you lead a division of a larger organization
  • You’ve tried solutions that didn’t deliver the expected results
  • You have authority to invest $5,000 to $8,000 without a lengthy procurement process
  • You’re ready to let the evidence – not assumptions – drive the decision

This is not the right fit if:

  • You’ve already decided on the solution and need someone to implement it
  • You need a training vendor, technology recommendation, or prepackaged program
  • You need a long-term engagement before taking any action on short-term findings

What comes next?

The diagnostic is designed to stand on its own. Many clients take the report, blueprint, and root cause map and execute internally.

For organizations that want deeper support, the diagnostic is the beginning of the full Performance Intelligence cycle – not the end of it.
